Hands-on finance leadership for PE-backed and owner-led companies.

I take on the work most companies split across three people: the deals, the finance function, and the systems underneath them. I don't just report the numbers, I build where they come from.

What I do

I work with private equity backed and owner-led companies, typically in the €1m to €20m EBITDA range, where the finance function has to move faster than it currently can.

Transactions and due diligence

Buy-and-build programmes, growth financing, and the integration work that follows. Financial due diligence on either side of the table, from a single target to a rolling acquisition pipeline.

Finance function

Reporting, control and working capital management built from the ground up, usually at speed and usually after a change of ownership.

Restructuring and distressed

Independent business reviews, restructuring plans and their implementation, and the negotiations with lenders and shareholders that go with them.

Data and systems

Data warehousing, BI, process automation, and AI applied to the finance function itself.

Selected work

Case 01 · Buy and build

Scaling a multi-site group through 30+ acquisitions

A multi-site services group pursuing an aggressive buy-and-build strategy in a fragmented market, with no finance function in place and no capacity to absorb acquisitions at pace.

I built the finance department from scratch, raised growth financing, and ran 30+ acquisitions end to end: sourcing, negotiation, due diligence and integration, with the integration process standardised and automated so each deal took less effort than the last. I also developed the software platform the business runs on, and built the data warehouse and BI reporting used to steer the group.

ResultRoughly 10x growth on every metric that mattered, from footprint to EBITDA.
Case 02 · Turnaround

Finance turnaround at a software business

A software company whose finance function had not kept pace with the growth of the business.

I restructured working capital, took out structural cost, and professionalised the team and its reporting. Alongside a developer, I built AI-assisted applications for the finance department's own recurring work.

ResultOver €1m released in working capital, alongside material structural cost savings, within six months.
Case 03 · Due diligence

100+ due diligence assignments, buy-side and sell-side

From Big Four practice through to independent work: Big Four quality of analysis, without the Big Four distance from the deal.

I move between the investor's perspective and the management team's without losing either, because I have sat in both seats. That is the difference between an investment that works in the model and one that works in the business: I flag what will bite after closing, and what it takes to fix it.

Typical briefFast, defensible analysis a buyer or seller can take to the table, with a clear view of what has to happen the day after.
Case 04 · Post-acquisition

Reporting and trusted advisor after a PE acquisition

Companies in the first months after a private equity acquisition, where the investor needs reliable numbers before anything else can move.

I set up financial reporting at short notice, then stayed on as a sounding board for management and the investor on financing, reorganisations, footprint optimisation and add-on acquisitions.

ResultAlmost without exception, the reporting mandate was followed by separate new assignments for the same client: raising financing, a reorganisation, a footprint review, an acquisition. Not extra hours on the original brief, but new engagements awarded after it.
Case 05 · Restructuring

Independent business reviews and restructuring plans

Companies under pressure from their lenders, with debt positions ranging from around €20m to well over €1bn. I have run independent business reviews, drafted restructuring plans and led their implementation, working directly with boards, shareholders and lending syndicates.

Half of that work is analysis and half is stakeholder management. A plan only holds if the lenders believe the numbers and the management team can actually execute it, and both audiences need to hear the same story.

Typical outcomeA plan the lenders can sign off on, or an honest view of the alternatives when they cannot.
What sets me apart

Most CFOs and diligence advisors work with the data they are handed. I build where it comes from.

Finance leadership and due diligence are the job. What I add on top is the layer underneath the numbers: the operating platform, the warehouse, the reporting, and increasingly the AI tooling that takes repetitive work off the finance team. It is why reporting arrives in days rather than weeks, why an integration holds, and why it all keeps running after I leave.

Operating platforms

Software the business actually runs on

Developed the platform a multi-site group uses to run its day-to-day operations, alongside the finance work.

Data and BI

One version of the numbers

Built the data warehouse and Power BI reporting used to steer a group through more than thirty acquisitions.

AI in finance

Removing the repetitive work

Built AI-assisted applications with a developer that took recurring manual work out of a finance department.
